[Updated 12/23 to include new members of the Committee]
The Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee advises and consents on the nomination for Homeland Security.
Trump has nominated Governor Noem of South Dakota (annual budget $7.9 billion) as his candidate to be Homeland Security Secretary (annual budget $64.8 billion). While Noem has competently run the state of South Dakota, her expertise in the Security area is, simply, missing.
The inside thinking is that Noem will kinda-sorta be the Secretary while the actual work of the department will be run out of the White House under Tom Homan. Should the coordination anticipated by the nominations for SecDef, DNI, and AG (a Squad, of all things), come to fruition, Noem will be positioned as either a fall-gal, should everything go sideways, or as a useful idiot mouthing platitudes and cliché’s as American citizens are rounded up in support of Trump’s emergent dictatorship. Every dictatorship needs jester.
This might be Heavy stuff.
Questions for the Secretary of Homeland Security - Nominee
Questions for Homeland Secretary - Nominee: Noem. The Homeland Department will play a front-line coordinating role in any Trump deportation scheme. Additionally, points of coordination among The Squad (Noem, Bondi, Hegseth, and Gabbard) could be used to drive the use of the US Military in domestic law enforcement: the starter flag for autocracy.
Urge these Senators to vote “no”.
